1984-1989: Program Director, KMHA-FM 91.3  I produced features on Mandan and Hidatsa culture and history, recorded traditional music at celebrations and interviewed local guests as well as celebrities; notably the late native actor Will Sampson of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" fame and Senator Dan Inouye, D-Hawaii, chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs, Washington DC.

 

1991-1994: Public Relations Director, Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation  I wrote several feature articles on tribal economic initiatives for the weekly tribal newspaper, gaining extensive knowledge on state and federal issues involving the tribe. During this time, I also testified before Congress in support of the Three Affiliated Tribes Equitable Compensation Act  signed into law October 1992, establishing a $149.2 million trust fund for our tribe. I also covered "The Historic Meeting Between President Clinton and Leaders of America's  First Nations at the White House" in 1994.

 

1994-1996: Reporter/Ad Sales Representative, New Town News  I was the first full-time reporter of native descent for my hometown weekly newspaper, writing feature articles of local interest. I also sold advertising, which sometimes included their design and layout, for two weekly newspapers and seasonal publications.

 

1996-1997: Title III Project Director, Fort Berthold Community College   I administered $1.3 million Interactive Video Network project establishing video links between the college and three distant mentor sites. A local area network (LAN) of 60 workstations was installed and operating at the Academic Center during my administration. I also initiated research on a tribal tourism curriculum based on cultural history relative to tribal involvement in the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial and well as co-founding the Fort Berthold Lewis and Clark Bicentennial committee.

 

1997-2000: Historian, Three Tribes Museum In August 1998, I was a member of a tribal delegation visiting the great-grandnephew of Prince Maximilian in Neu-wied Germany. At lewis-clark.org, I co-produced Discovery Paths: Native Nations: Three Tribes with Marilyn Hudson, Three Tribes Museum administrator. In November 1999, I co-produced a short video  documentary on contemporary Mandan and Hidatsa culture for the central earth lodge exhibit and provided voice narrations for exhibits at the Plains Indian Museum, Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, WY. In November 2000, I was again a member of a tribal delegation visiting Germany for the grand opening of the exhibit In the River of Time: Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Native Life along the Upper Missouri River at the Linden Museum, Stuttgart.
